With March Madness right around the corner, it is time to get a group of friends together and fill out a bracket and see who does the best. Will there be one upset that breaks your whole bracket? Could you pick an upset that most people didn’t pick? Maybe you do something almost impossible and get the perfect bracket. No one has ever done that but some have been close. The best bracket ever done had 49 correct games (there are 64 games in total). You might ask something like, “Why should I fill a bracket out?” Well, it takes maybe 10 minutes to fill a bracket out and who knows, you could have that perfect bracket worth millions. The brackets are a fun way to get yourself to watch the games because you want to see who wins each game.
HHS has a lot of staff and students who love the spirit of March Madness! Ms. Pritchett says she likes to fill out a bracket because, “…it makes the games she has less interest in worth watching.” As a UW-Madison graduate, she said rooting on the Badgers is an obvious choice, but if her hometown team ever makes it (Valparaiso University), she always has them win at least once! Mr. Dieckman also roots for the Badgers, but his picks depend more on how they’re doing in the season and the matchups they get. He said he doesn’t follow college basketball much at all, so to make picks, he said, “I just go by seeds and do minimal research.”
My advice for making a good pick is to do your research and try to know enough about the teams. If you can do that, there’s a chance your bracket will go far! So get a group together and get ready for a fun March Madness tournament experience.
