The decision of what you want to do after high school can be very difficult and is very important. No matter what you decide, a four year college, technical school, going into the workforce, or going into the military, it is important to be confident in what you are doing and if that decision is what you think is best for you. Some people know exactly what they want to do after high school but many do not and that is completely okay (no matter what people tell you)!
If you choose to go to college, it is tough because you need to find a college that fits all of your needs. It is extremely important to make sure the school you are looking at has the major that you are interested in. You also need to pick a good location for yourself and make sure you are comfortable with being there for the next few years of your life. It could also be helpful to look into the extracurricular activities that the school offers, as that can help you make friends that have the same hobbies and interests as you. It’s also a good way to just get out of your dorm and out of your comfort zone.
Some students will choose the technical school route. Technical schools are sometimes overlooked by a lot of people and also looked at as “an easy way of college.” Technical schools most of the time actually offer a more hands-on learning experience than most four year colleges. The process for applying to tech schools is usually very easy. A lot of the schools in our area don’t require you to write an essay. For example, at CVTC in Eau Claire, if you tour the campus and apply the same day, they will waive the application fee. Technical schools can also be an alternative route for a degree that you can get at a four-year university.
Another route is going into the workforce if you are not interested in going to college or a technical school. More men go into the workforce, such as construction, plumbing, electric work, and many other blue collar jobs that do not require any sort of degree past a high school diploma. You will instantly be making money and not have to worry about any sort of debt in the future.
A solid option, if you are compelled, is going into the military. Going into the military is a beneficial option if you are interested in going to college but don’t have the money currently or if you are just wanting to serve your country. The military offers large financial, career, and personal benefits that will set you and your family up for the rest of your life.
It can be difficult to choose what you want to do but it is an important decision that can impact the rest of your life. No matter what you gravitate towards, make sure it is what you want to do and that you are confident because it will determine the way you live the rest of your life.
