Looking for a new place to get fit? Lucky for you, TWIG gym is now right in town. TWIG recently moved from County Highway E to the Hayward Sports Center on Sutliff Drive. The move into town has many great things that it comes with, but also there are some not so great things. With TWIG’s new location, being in town is a lot more accessible for people, although the facility in the Sports Center is small and not enough room as it needs to have. TWIG’s previous location was in a garage at the owner’s house (Pat Sheehan). The garage had a ton of space, it had turf and many more rigs than it does now (as the location now does not have as much room). For hockey players, the new facility has a nice shooting area with synthetic ice and four different nets, while the old location did not have as big of one.
So what is TWIG? Well, TWIG training allows athletes and members of the community to get cross fit training with coaches and other people. TWIG classes consist of a stretch/ warmup, strength, and a metcon. Each class starts with a warm up that is tailored to the work out of the day. After the warm up the class starts a strength session. Each strength workout consists of a lift or movement with weights and usually a superset (an extra movement to help build strength or agility, usually without weight). Lastly, the class starts a metcon. Each metcon is different ranging from high intensity with low weights to EMOMs that are every minute on the minute you do a movement.
Many HHS athletes benefit from this facility. Lucas Hansen, senior basketball and track star said, “It develops explosiveness and makes me a better athlete in the off-season.” So if you are looking to get in shape or improve a muscle group for a sport, check out TWIG training at the Hayward Sports Center.
