Civics is a very important class for students to take. Too important to be taken only as a freshman. Mr. Dieckman, a social studies teacher, says that it should be taken as a senior class. It just makes sense since those are the students closest to being able to participate in our democracy. Mr. Churchill said the same thing, and he is the Civics teacher. Most of the sophomores can’t remember some of the most important aspects of how our country works, because they took Civics as freshmen. A friend of ours is retaking Civics and said that the Freshmen are too immature for that class. It makes sense!
Civics is also taught by good teachers that are strict with their rules, which helps when it comes to learning about the amendments, the constitution, our presidents, and the branches of the government. Additionally, it would be really nice to have another Civics class as an elective for upperclassmen that goes more in depth about politics and that sort of stuff, because a lot of students could benefit from a class like that. This class would make the average student ready to vote, as most of them will be eligible to do so within the next year or so. Current high school students will soon earn that right to vote, and the future of this country will basically be in their hands. Plus having educated voters would hopefully mean electing less corrupt officials and smarter choices for the presidency. This is why Civics should be taken as a senior class.
