During homecoming week female athletes participated in powderpuff while members of the football team acted as coaches for their classes’ teams. Throughout the month leading up to gameday, teams worked hard to design plays and schedule practices. After classes on Wednesday, the athletes excitedly headed out to the field, ready to win some games. The first match ups were the juniors vs. freshmen and the seniors vs. sophomores. The juniors easily beat the freshmen 21-0. In a much closer game, the seniors beat the sophomores 7 – 0. Then came the championship. After a low-scoring first half, the seniors fell to the juniors after a buzzer-beating touchdown catch by Makenna Hutchinson. The final score was 14 – 7. Hutchinson had an amazing day with four touchdowns, carrying the junior team to a well deserved victory against the seniors. It was a fun afternoon, and very fortunately, there were no injuries this year!
A big thank you to all the coaches for their hard work and dedication to their teams! Freshman coaches were Simon Hansen, Adel Amparo, Trey Lacapa, Levi Bellile. Sophomore coaches were Trevor Poppe, Caleb Springer, Ty Lehman and Trace Marino. Junior coaches were Keegan Walsh, Eric Fish, Jacob Shuck, John Peterson, and Preston Sullivan. Senior coaches were Kyle Gajewski, Xzavier Stojek, Alex DePew, Deangelo Sardina.
Another big thank you to the student cheering sections. Each class was enthusiastically supported by their fellow students’ chants, both supporting their own team and rooting against the competition. “It was a great experience, looking forward to doing it again next year. I really think we can improve on what we have already done and beat the freshman coming next year.” Trevor Poppe said about his sophomore team that tied for last place.
We also would like to give a final thank you to all the staff that gave their time and skills to these games. Our refs/officials were Mrs. VonArb, Mr. Brennan, Mr. Sande, Mr. Botten, and Mr. Siverling, Mrs. Zawistowksi, and Ms. Stark. We also were lucky to have Mr. Dieckman as our announcer- who filled the stadium with his play-by-play and colorful commentary. “Seniors are just now figuring out that the amount of eyeblack you have doesn’t make you play football any better.” Mr. Dieckman was a top tier announcer and we will be happy to have him back next year. We can’t wait for next year’s games!
