Art Club strives to improve the working environment for Hayward High School students and strengthen the community’s connection. There are many opportunities to connect with the community and peers. The main goal is to make the school brighter with art so that it aids in creating a creative and stimulating work environment.
Two meetings have taken place since the beginning of the school year and the club has already participated in projects and community work. The Secretary of the club, Sierra Stojek, and a couple others helped decorate the fence for the Homecoming game, and other members volunteered at the game’s concessions. Concessions help raise money for future field trips.
With the help of the club’s co-presidents Elizabeth Greenwald and Julia Carley, crafts such as making name tags for student lockers help make the school more student-friendly.
There are several field trips that the club has done over the years and many more to come. These trips include community work such as a bridge mural, face painting, help with Birkie medals and a nursing home visit which is planned to happen again soon. The club has also done and plans on doing an array of projects that aid in the school environment and help students come together such as painting snow week student tiles, snow sculptures, a trip to an art gallery, sculpture for the school, and a Chicago aquarium trip.
There has been positive feedback from active members of the Art Club. Sierra Stojek appreciates how she can help the community through field trips and projects such as making banners for school events. Sierra believes art can help people feel more included and raise their mood by making them happy. She says it’s important to live in a world of color rather than a world of gray, “Art is all around us, it is more than just a drawing.”
