In high school, signing to play a collegiate sport is a great accomplishment. On November 13, six Hayward students committed to multiple schools to play a variety of different sports. These students showed a great deal of hard work as well as achievement both on and off the field, and it’s paying off!
Xzavier Stojek committed to play shortstop at UW-Whitewater. He is very excited to expand on his high school experience. He stated, “I am most looking forward to a higher level competition of baseball, and receiving a better education.” When Xzavier first stepped on campus, it felt like home and we hope that’s the case!
We all know Alex DePew as a tough football player for the Canes, and he committed to play defensive end at UW-Eau Claire. He is most looking forward to having a strong connection with his coach, who heavily recruited him to play for the Blugolds and of course, playing college football.
Tara Eckes committed to play golf at Winona State University. As part of a winning team at Hayward, we’re excited that she decided to continue her golfing career and she is looking forward to being around competitive golfers. She stated, “I chose Winona because they are the only school in Minnesota that had my major…Clinical Exercise Science.” Lucky Minnesota!
The Canes will be sad to see Trenton Kirkland move on, but are proud that a freshman starter will be continuing to stand out on the diamond. Trenton committed to catch at Bethany Lutheran. He said, “I am most looking forward to meeting new people and exploring a new town.”
Dawson Jorczak is another powerful baseball player for the Canes who will be sorely missed, but for whom we are all very happy he’ll continue to play baseball. He has committed to pitch at UW-River Falls. He stated, “I really like the area, campus, and coaching staff.” Best wishes!
Finally, Brooke Laier committed to pitch at Augsburg University in the Twin Cities. She said, “I am looking forward to being on a team where everyone cares about softball, and wants to be at practice/games everyday.”
Turns out, Minnesota is doubly lucky to be recruiting such high-caliber athletes. Same for Wisconsin. Congratulations to all of these athletes as they start on their new journey in life and best wishes to the Canes teams next year!
