The Entrepreneurship class in the business department has long been the class to run the school store. There has been a pretty long absence of a school store (which got shuttered thanks to COVID), and the remodeling process hindered it’s return; however, at long last, the school store has a space to call their own. Ms. Ripley and the students enrolled in Entrepreneurship have been hard at work to bring back a place where Hurricanes past and present can buy unique school items. With huge gratitude to the Hayward Foundation for Educational Enrichment (HFEE), the students have gained access to top-of-the-line equipment. This, in combination with powerful tools like Adobe Illustrator (which is district purchased), they have been busy learning, designing, and creating. Their first order contained a small selection of blank apparel as well as the transfers they designed. Then they promptly set to work learning how to run the heat press as well as the rules for making sure their final product would be something the community and students are happy to wear.
The new school store is located just inside the commons, next to the interactive television screen. Do yourself a favor and check it out because it looks sharp, professional, and all the apparel is created by the students. The students use their class time developing additional apparel, printing new merchandise, and keeping their new production space neat and tidy.
As with anything in life, it’s always a work in progress. As things have been coming together and The Storm gets stocked up, eyes and efforts turn toward improvement, including having an online presence. In the not-too-distant future, pictures and descriptions of the apparel will be available online. Students and staff around the school have all expressed their excitement and enthusiasm towards the store, and the students doing all this impressive work.
The school store is looking to be very inclusive in styles that are easy to wear out and about while also being able to rep your Hurricane pride, so many of these designs have been so carefully chosen by students, some being brand new, and some being long time favorites passed down the generations. There are hooded sweatshirts and crewnecks to keep you nice and warm, tee-shirts for a regular day out, and some long-sleeve tees for those cool fall days. Especially welcomed are the wonderful choppers for when you’re out in the cold and your hands are about to freeze. All of the students and staff are extremely excited and impressed with how amazing the apparel is, and how hard the students have worked to get here.
Thank you to Ms. Ripley, Jacob, Jose, Kaylin, Alexandra, Moira, Kianna, Ellie, Freya, Seth, Brady, Brooklyn, Taylor L, Dylan, Sophia, Keegan, Taylor P, Leah, Kaden, Martha, Isaiah, and Brendan. You all have done a wonderful job, and I know plenty of students who can agree with me.
