Red Ribbon Week is a nationwide drug, alcohol, & tobacco awareness and prevention program throughout the entirety of the United States. The reason it is a nationwide event is because it is very important to spread awareness of drug & alcohol use, what can happen when one uses either, and why people shouldn’t. In the U.S. alone 19.4% of the population (about 65.6 million) use drugs, with 6.9% of that group being teenagers (about 1.74 million). The most common ages of drug use are from the late teens to people in their mid-20’s. These statistics show how important it is to spread more awareness to people.
Our school is spreading awareness and showing support by observing Red Ribbon Week from October 27-31. The theme for 2025 is “Life is a Puzzle, Solve it Drug Free.” The HHS Character Education club provides activities for students during this national week. Dress up themes for each day are: Monday- Wear Red, Tuesday- Camp Day, Wednesday- Dress Like What You Want To Be When You Grow Up, Thursday- Western Day, Friday- Wear a Hat for $1. Mrs. Von Arb, Character Ed advisor, just announced that all proceeds earned by hat sales will go to the Sawyer County K-9 Foundation. This will benefit our entire community by keeping us safe and drug-free. Different schools in the district also have their own dress up days and activities throughout the week to celebrate living a drug-free life.
In addition to dress up days, there will also be a “find the red ribbon” challenge in the building, where students will win a prize if they’re the first to find the ribbon and bring it to Mrs. Von Arb!
By celebrating Red Ribbon Week, people learn more about the effects and influence that drugs, alcohol, and tobacco may have on others. So please join us in celebrating making positive choices and having some in-school fun!
