For those of you who don’t know, Hayward Dance Experience has a group called the Show Stoppers who participate in competitions, winter performances, as well as the recital in the spring. Last year they did very well in both of their competitions and hope to do just as well this year with the new group. Last year they took one dance to competition, “Jai Hoe” by A.R. Rahman, but this year they will be taking two dances. One will be a jazz dance to the song “Just Watch Me Now” by Ladi Bri, and the other will be a hip-hop/jazz dance to the song “Tick Tick Boom” by Sage The Gemini and Bygtwo3.
As for their winter performances, in the past, they have done a few at local nursing homes and one at a Flat Creek event. This year, they will be performing on February 2nd at the Hayward’s JV Boys’ Basketball game. For the past two years, they performed the same winter dance, however, this year they are excited to be performing the new hip-hop/jazz dance they are taking to competition.
These girls don’t just dance though, they also do fundraisers to help with the expenses of their competitions. Last year they had a woodfire pizza fundraiser with a bake sale and walked up and down Main Street multiple times asking for donations. This year they had a movie fundraiser with a bake sale, and are trying to also do a fundraiser bagging groceries at Marketplace. These girls work very hard all year, learning choreography for multiple classes, planning and working fundraisers, and performing for many different crowds to do the thing they love: Dance!
