Art is something that is all around us. It is what makes up the world we live in. Art has many forms: paintings, sculptures, photos, songs, poems, and so much more. They say art is in the eye of the beholder, that art is subjective to an individual’s perspective. Which leads to a very important question. What does art mean to you?
Here are some different perspectives on art around HHS:
“To me, art means freedom to express myself and allows me to focus on something different. I like to draw and paint. I can start with a blank canvas and plaster my feelings onto it and create something else. It allows me to express feelings without having to use words. I also love listening to art. Music is a part of my everyday life. Music helps me clear my mind when I feel stressed. It also helps me create the art I place on blank canvases.” -Ava Jerome
“To me art is the freedom to express myself through visual media, something I’m not able to do with my words.” -Anonymous
“To me art is a statement. Art is a community that helps me and others express themselves in unique and different ways.”
-Amillia Robertson
“I think that art is a great way to express yourself, destress, encourage community, problem solve, and build confidence. It can be such a great outlet and connects to so many other disciplines, more so than most even realize. Being involved in any of the creative arts; whether it be music, dance, theater, or fine art, helps to nurture our creative and critical thinking skills.” -Mrs. Sorensen
“Art lets me show my creative side. It lets me put my feelings on a piece of paper.” -Bethany Gordon
“I think art is a very important form of expression throughout human history. Art goes way back, we drew before we could speak. I enjoy it because it’s a means to express myself, my thoughts and feelings that I can’t put into words. To me, all art is very beautiful. It lets me see into someone’s mind, and I think that’s neat.”
-Miles Robertson.
“To me art is about creating things that look cool, and that me and other people can enjoy looking at.” -Freya Fleming
“Art is the ability to freely express how you are feeling and who you are, both your conscious and subconscious self. I like music, I like photography, and I like drawings because I like to draw”
-Mr. Dieckman
“I think art is pretty interesting. I like seeing the different ways people draw and paint and the different topics in art you can do, there’s a wide variety in art.”
-Leighla Miller
“Art to me has always been an output of my thoughts and a past time thing when I find myself with nothing to do. Art gives me an opportunity to share, connect, and express some things I see that I cannot put to words. But mainly, it just lets me do something. Art to me is a language I can speak through, something I can always learn and improve.” -Trista Zopp
“I always tell students, ‘Art is something you can do your entire life.’ So when you can’t play your sport you love, or you’re too old to run, or can’t even hear or see, you can still love art. That’s the beautiful thing about it- art is everywhere and everything.”-Mrs. Egger
Art is a deep rooted part of life that we see all around us. Art is a beautiful thing held in many forms, as it is how we express ourselves even if we don’t know it. Take some time, what do you find as art when you know what it is to you? It’s all a part of you.
