When winter temperatures drop below freezing, it’s tempting to just fit inside and play video games or watch tv and just wait for spring. But freezing days can be the perfect excuse to enjoy many activities that are special when it’s this time of year. Whether you love the outdoors or even love staying cozy inside, winter offers us plenty of ways to make the most of the cold.
1.Cozy indoor activities:
Freezing weather is very ideal for staying inside and getting comfortable. Wrap yourself in a blanket, light a candle, and enjoy a movie marathon or binge watch a show. Reading a good book, coloring with your family or even doing a puzzle can make a cold day into a calm relaxing day.
2. Kitchen fun:
Cooking and baking are more winter essentials. Making soup, chili, or even a stew can fill your tummy up and make your home smell warm and comfortable. Baking cookies, homemade bread or brownies is not only fun, but also very delicious and rewarding. (ESPECIALLY SINCE YOU CAN ENJOY ALL THE YUMMY SNACKS WHILE THEY’RE FRESH!)
3. Go outside:
Cold weather never means you have to avoid going outside. A short walk in the snow whether it be with yourself, friends or even your dog can be rewarding. It’s very healthy to get fresh hair for at least 40 min a day. Building a snowman, having snowball fights or simply just sitting in the snow can make you enjoy the nature that is surrounding you before going back inside to warm up. (Eating snow is fun too!)
4. Winter sports/activities:
If you are more in an adventurous mode and feeling like you’re ready to do something, winter is the perfect season to try seasonal activities like ice fishing, ice skating, skiing, or snowboarding. Even simple ideas like sledding down a hill can be fun for ALL ages and it also doesn’t require much more than a sled and the ability to walk up a hill wearing snow gear!
5. Creating yummy warm drinks:
Hot drinks feel extra fabulous when it’s freezing. Hot cocoa, tea and coffee or maybe even cider can make anyone cozy on a cool day. Experimenting with different flavors like peppermint or cinnamon can make your winter drinks way more exciting as well.
6. Quality time:
Winter is a great time to connect with the people around you. Board games, card games or cooking together can bring people closer together. Freezing days make people focus on conversations, laughter and shared moments.
7. Creativity:
Use the winter weather to try something new. Drawing, painting, knitting or learning a new skill can make cold days feel extremely productive and even enjoyable. Creating new hobbies is a great way to stay busy while also staying warm.
8. Self care:
Winter is also about getting rest, so find some time to take care of YOU. Taking long showers or bubble baths, using a face mask, painting your nails or even simply doing nothing for a while can be beneficial for your overall health. Freezing days are a good reminder that it’s okay to take a break, slow down, and take the time for yourself.
Overall, when it’s freezing outside winter doesn’t have to feel dull or miserable. With the right mindset, cold days can be fun, cozy and even memorable. Whether you’re outside enjoying the snowy activities or inside staying warm and making memories, winter offers plenty of opportunities to relax, connect with people, and enjoy the freezing season.
