I went into Scream 7 opening weekend with high expectations, but I was highly disappointed in what writer/director Kevin Williamson gave us. As a massive fan of this franchise, I expected a lot from this installment to bring something fresh to the screen and to bring some unexpected plot twists to the story, but was left disappointed.
For one thing, I didn’t expect them to bring in new characters to just end up killing them. One of the biggest disappointments was that the killers’ reveal felt like random psycho fans obsessed with Sidney Prescott (main character). Another big disappointment was that they brought back Stu Macher (Ghostface from Scream 1) as an AI-generated character, which in my book is plain and boring.

While most of the film left me disappointed, there were some good things. One of the best scenes was at the tavern. It was really tense, gory, and different from the other scenes. When Lucas and Tatum (new main characters) are hanging out with others at the tavern, Lucas gets stabbed multiple times and the one Ghostface (played by Anna Camp) does something horrific with his body, which was a really shocking moment out of this movie. (It’s especially shocking when you learn their relationship to each other!)
In conclusion, this 7th installment didn’t connect with me like the other movies did in this franchise. It felt as if they rushed the whole movie besides the opening kill. As a die-hard Scream fan, I really wish that this movie could have been better… I wasn’t on the edge of my seat at all, and there was very little suspense built up. It felt as if this movie was just here for a cash grab and to throw it in our faces. If I had to rate this movie, it probably would be 5/10, which isn’t terrible, but it definitely didn’t meet my expectations.
